Wow! Am I a stress case right now. So I have a bought a new townhouse that just need to finish being built. It is about a mile and a half away from my parents, just close enough I must say to go shopping in my mom's food pantry.
So after picking out wall colors, facuets, toilets, molding, appliances, carpets, stone, hardwood floors, I am in the home stretch.
I found the place back in November before they even broke ground, literally the sales office was just being set up, and I fell in love with it. It is in the yuppy part of Camarillo. The park is close by, freeway access is just a minute away but it is perfect.
So if anyone wants to come visit me after I move in you are more tham welcome to.

Red Cross Gala

Ahhhhh aren't we cute. Okay girls sorry about the little dress situation, the boobs just wouldn't stay in. Now that the disclaimer is over. I had a smashing fun time at the 3rd Annual Red Cross Gala. This year it was at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, CA. There was approximately 200 people that came and we had fun. The band was awesome. I wish I could of danced all night long but that didn't happen, just a few minutes here and there. But I had fun.
So you might notice that there are more than four of us in this picture that is Jessica, my brothers girlfriend, soon to be finance, yes ladies my baby brother is getting married before me. I'm telling you I think I slept a little too long last night and I was magically moved to Seattle. It just keeps raining here in Sunny Southern California. Rain, rain go away!!!!!
So after looing my voice (some people are calling it a miracle... which I think it is a blessing) I'm home relaxing. I slept in until 10:00 after waking up for the minute in a half to call into work that was a hard one to pull off but they realized who it was by the phone number. So my doggie Harley (ohhh he's such a cute baby he just doesn't like most people) and I we slept for most of the morning. He on on side of the couch and I on the other. It becamse a tug of war for the blanket but he won. The voice is coming back to I am going to go into work over the weekend since I have two new employees starting and one leaving next week and I am so not prepared for them to be there.
So back to the rain, did you know that there are only so many aweaters in one's closet that eventually you run out of them and must wear the same thing twice in a month. Yes, I hit that point this month, but, and I stress a HUGE but here.... I do get awesome compliments on my shinny cool rain boots that are black with right color hued polka dots all over them. They are the bomb.

So I'm off to the land of sweet dreams. Love you all. V

p.s. ohhh yes, the pictures what the heck is this???? This is a picture of the Bible school that my aunt and good family friend run in the Artic. yes, the artic (katie you can appreciate the cold there) My parents are back up there for the 50th anniversary of the school. The eskimos are really funny people. Where exactly is the artic. Find the Hudson Bay on a map and right above it is called the Rankin Inlet. There are no trees, birds or critters that reside there. It is usually 30 below and as my dad put it, the place really is the armpit of the artic, but who is there lots of eskimos that now love Jesus. :))

San Francisco Baby!

Hey All:
SanFrancisco for Chinese New Year was such a blast. I have to say that this was one great experience that I definetely would love to do again. So all of us Dickran cousins, and some of their respective others went on the lonnnnng journey from here, there and everywhere.
So lets say we left Camarillo, CA at 3:30 AM yes AM and the first stop was exactly 30 seconds down the hill at the donut store, after two dozens donughts and there was only 7 os us in the car we left for Davis, CA. With 6 Ipods in the car, full of great music, suger rush off the wall, and lots of caffeine buzzing us, we experienced the 5 freeway all awake for about 30 minutes before people started crashing for not sleeping all night. So off we went to Davis, CA to pick up our cousin up there. So we arrived in Berkely around 11 AM and we hit the town, mind you it is all of maybe 5 by 5 blocks and I walked everyone of them. So we picked up our other cousin and now there is 8 and we head to San Francisco.
Wait? What is that? Where are we staying.Hmmmm, we left those directions at home, but hey there are only so many hotels that start with an "R" so I'm so we can figure it out. After lots of calling around we find our hotel. Yeah!!!
So we made it to San Francisco, and all is good. We change and head out to hail taxi's to go to the shopping district and dinner of Sushi. After lots of Sushi I learned to love this food. Okay so I am still a beginner but I really do love it. Gotta work on one called the volcano that has a clam sauce on top of it since I wasn't to keen on it, but hey there is a whole lifetime for me to figure that one out.
After shopping it is off to a few small bars to visit the nightlife and a sampling of every dessert on one restaurants menu for all of us, that was way fun.
So the next morning is Alcatraz (kristen, jen, debra, remember our lovely picture, I looked it up in my picture album for great memories) and then on to tackle the wharf's endless supply of seafood.
After seafood, we went to Ghiradelli square and then more shopping and then the dreaded tak of finding a taxi when you know that all of them are on the other side of town where 3 million people are getting together for the Chinese New Years Day Parade. I literally had to jump in the middle of the road as a taxi was in the midst of turning a corner and grabbed his door handle and made him stop in the middle of the intersection, and then everyone else came running over and jumped in. The cop who was stopped at the stoplight across the street just shook his head. Poor taxi driver he was a little scared. But it was funny.
Then back to the hotel to change and go to the parade. Word of advice if they say somethiing is close in San Francisco it means 10 blocks in one direction. Yup, all of us girls are in stilettos and we walk 10 blocks up and two blocks inland and we hit the parade. That was sooo stinking awesome. The fireworks, the dragons, everything was sooo way cool. We pushed our way to the front of the crowd and ended up being right in front where everyone started and it was way fun.
After the parade we headed to little italy for someone good italian food and wine. Those italians really know how to cook.
So the next morning we visit Golden Gate Park and Golden Gate Bridge and then we take Highway One for an 11 hour drive home. Yes, I get car sick and 11 hours later you tend to get really cranky. But I would do it all over again, I loved my cousins their boyfriends and my brothers girlfriend (soon to be finance).

BBQ in January

So yesterday was another BBQ day in the Dickran house.

Ode to Snow

Wow!
Today was so completely fun. The girls from my department at the office all four of us (yes we are numbered but we old our own) we went skiing and snowboarding in Big Bear. It was soo fun. So we left really early and make the trek up the mountain. For those of you who know me yes there was one or two u-turns but it really wasn't my fault we were too busy talking, singing, laughing and having a great time in the SUV.
We knew we were going to have a blast especially since three of them had never been to the snow before, so there was lots of questions and the apprehsion was high. Everyone kept watching the temperature gage for outside and hit it a whopping 28 degrees farenehit. Thanks God for thermal underwear, jackets, books, beanies, scarves and everything else we had brought with us.
So off to the slopes, we all took the beginer ski lessons for two hours and that was a trip, it was so icy and then right when we were done with the lessons it started snowing. That was pretty awesome.
So on to the slopes, the bunny hills have our names written all over it. We hit ice several times, had to crash several times due to fallen people in front of us, and we went up and down the slope several times. Thanks goodness for those wonderful cars that take you to the top.
So imagine 28 degrees, snowing and then the wind steps up and it is blowing hard. To sstand still is not an option you would freeze. My poor body thanking me for layering the Roxy outfit.
So after a full day, we headed home.
Thanks girls for a great time. See you next weekend and lets take the snowboarding lessons it looks way cooler than skiing.

Happy New Year!!!!!

Hey Everyone it is an awesome new year. OKay just go with that thought, I figure if I live in denial that the new year high that I am on will eventually stop that it might actually last longer this year than last year. So normally you all would get a great funny picture (or nice one) here but I can't for New Years this year since I was sick.

Yes, sick, I had food poisoning, it was soo sad and I so wanted to do all of the fun things that everyone had planned. But, I know that God has his ways in all things and to be honest it was kinda fun to have a stress free day of not having to get reaedy to go anywhere (okay so I never changed out of my sweats and t-shirt all day) that was awesome!

This gave me a great oppurtunity to reflect on 2005 and all that the year encompassed, I can only pray that 2006 is not like 2005 that was a very hard year for me both emotionally and spiritually, lots of challenges, obstacles and I swear every time I tried to do anything or wanted anything or thought of any hope in any situation the door was not only closed it was sealed with heavy duty clue, duct tape and everything else that my favorite store; Home Depot; might possibly cary, the hings were taken off and the locks were removed so there was no chance of prying that open. Let's just say that there was alot of frustration in 2005. Isn't it kinda funny that when you yell at God, he still answers you; never with what I want, but He still answers and He usually has a sense of humor in His answer. So after alot of frustration, you wanna know what I learned that was a re-occuring theme for the year, Patience and Trust in Him. OKAY so after bawling for like hours and realizing that it is best to give in to Him and just surrender yourself since you are sooo stinkin broken already that there is no way you can go through the rinse cycle again since you are delicate, you just give in your will and trust that He will give you His will.

So for those of you reading this, I will say that He hasn't hit me over the head yeat , but I had a feeling that was coming and I knew that would hurt. So, here is to 2006, a year of learning, a year of seeking and year of giving in to His will not my will. Let's just say that as the counting crows song colorblind states; " I am ready, I am ready, I am waiting, pull me out from the inside, I am folded and unfolded and unfolding I am."

Soooooo if anyone has great advice of how to be patient let me know since those of you who know me best know that patience is just not a word that I know instead I will find a way to organize it, plan it and set an agenda whatever it is in case it might happen. You know (kristin this one is for you) you can never bring too many clothes to something and of course you have to unpack everyhting in the drawers that they have in a hotel room so you can see everything and you have to have options just in case the occasion comes about. So patience people, patience, this one will be hard.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas All!
So today is CHRISTmas day yes CHRIST, the wonderful day we can reflect on the great things God has given us this year. The ability to look forward to the many great things that are yet to come. So today is my fourth Christmas this season, between different sides of the family, immediate family and just Christmas, it has been a busy season. The above picture is all of us (including Jessica, my brothers girlfriend) at my mom's side of the family's Christmas party last Sunday.
So I am off to another Christmas in Santa Barbara, but wanted to share a moment with everyone.

Love ya all

Thanksiving

Happy Thanksiving!
So Thanksgiving was wonderful. It is always an adventure on my mom's side of the family to see how many of us will be there for dinner. So we drove from Camarillo to Santa Maria and it was raining. yeah!!!! It made it feel like the holidays. We went to my aunt and uncles and there ended up being 47 of us for a sit down formal china full course dinner. Gotta love the Goughs! We had a lot of fun catching up with everyone, eating, going to Starbucks, and plaing a little Poker. So the next day (saturday) the girls and my brother we went to Santa Barbara for a little get together time with lunch on the pier and then some casual shopping in the Paseo Nuevo mall area (a big outdoor mall area in downtown Santa Barbara) after alot of shopping, alot of ohhh why don't I make more money. We called it a day.
So here's to San Francisco for Thanksgiving next year!

Happy Halloween

So Halloween was alot of fun. October is almost done with. So I had another formal event to attend to, thank goodness you can recycle dresses at different events when you don't go to the same event with the same people. For those of you who know me, I've officially taken over my brothers closet with just my formal attire. He doesn't know about this yet, so it will be interesting when he discovers it but my closet doesn't have room for them and two suitcases were not cutting it.

So all is good right now. Halloween madness is almost over. I was dorothy as in the wizard of oz this year for two different costume parties. I'm getting ready to start decorating for Christmas. My poor mom doesn't understand why we are going to have Christmas decorations up for Thanksgiving, but I really love our Christmas decoartions. The whole thing is causing quite a kunundrom but hey you only live once.

So nothing too new, just thought I'd say a HUGE hello to everyone out there.

Love you all

Paris

Hey all!
Sorry for things being out of order, but yes, I'm back,...... from where? Europe. London, Paris and the French countryside for 12 glorious days. Let me say that I am know a strong believer in vacations. Wow, are they awesome or what. And think I still have 60 hours left that I can use this year or roll over to next year.

So after deparing LAX we stopped in Dallas for an hour ( since I couldn't fathom sitting on a plane for that long) and then on to Heathrow airport. Let me just say that if you ever fly that long take lots of sleeping pills they work wonders. So after 16 hours in the air, we had to find the train station and take a train for 3 hours to the West Coast to the Brittany area where my aunt lives. Just imagine old world town that has a wall around the city, drawbridge, the whole nine yards and yup there you go that's where we went.

After three days in Brittany and seeing their lovely open air markets, poultry that isn't neatly cleaned, package and less the legs, arms and head and of course after eating lots of gillettes (not the razor silly, but very thin pancakes that look like lace) we packed up and headed off to Paris.

Paris is everything you read about, see and talk about. Big, old, dirty, amazing and just awe inspiring. You know how you read fairtales or history books and it talks about those places that are magical in every way, yup that's paris. We stayed at my aunt and uncles flat (that's what they call apartments there since there isn't houses in the city). Their flat is about a block away from Notre Dame and three blocks away from Place des Vouges (this is the oldest, most expensive part of the city where alot of movies are filmed). The first thing I noticed is there are NO elevators ohhh, wait a second, I need to back up. When my other aunt and uncle picked us up from the airport, we were just about in a bind. As they put it I'm an American who packed too much. With a suitcase that is 27" and weighs 68 pounds it almost didn't fit in their car or the taxi's there for that matter. So back to the elevator, so their flat is the third story, so imagine, heat wave of 90 degrees Farenheit, humidity, a 68 pund suitcase and yes there are stairs. Mind you these are no ordinary stairs these are stairs that I think were built in the 13th century and never been repaired, ever time you walked they creaked, the rail wasn't sturdy and they leaned inward. After 70 steps man I was scared. So after that ordeal we moved on.

Sightseeing was wonderful. The musuems, the opera, the churches, the shopping. WOW! WOW! and WOW! We (my mom & I) spent three days in Paris doing everything and anything. Up at 7 am at the bread shop and then home around 2 a.m. She was a real trooper. We did night and daytime site seeing. The best part was having my cousins take us around at night that was fun since they knew where everything was. So those of you who know me, know I LOVE shopping. Paris major department store covers three city street corners and is one block long and seven stories tall. One corner for mens, one for women, one for home. Three hours later and a few trips to the post office on the fourth corner isn't that convienant, I had alot of fun.

So after Paris, we took the chunnel to London for a day. That was alot of fun, more sightseeing, more wonderful places, I didn't get to see the crown jewels but I love those cabbies and their cute cars.Oh I almost forgot Harrods department store. After buying a few new hats, yes hats, I really love them, and two new outits, we decided it was time to head back to Paris.

Back to Paris and to the South of France in the countryside. My aunt and uncles summer home is in a small town that has maybe 300 people, I swear I only say maybe 50 people, but they say there are 300. Their chateau is HUGE. Three stories,11 bedrooms, five acres, and only two bathrooms their back half of their property backs up to the river and caves where archeologist discovered many years ago the oldest drawings of mankind. Kinda cool huh? So the big event was my cousins's wedding. So weddings in France requires lots of clothes, that's why I have such a heavy suitcase.

So the wedding day, first their is one outfit and a civil ceremony at the town hall where we wear business attire, (France only recogizes civil cermonies) then a few hours later is the church wedding and yes that is another summer garden with style attire this is where the hats come into play then there is the cocktail hour and you get the picture another outfit this time it is black casual wear and then dinner starts. So the civil ceremony started at 10 am and dinner started at 9 p.m. oh did you forget that this is another outfit, black tie dress attire. Then after a seven course dinner is desert and then dancing in another outfit. So around 5 a.m. guests started leaving it could be because the alcohol is starting to run low. So off to bed.

The next morning all of the guests come over and trickle in for breakfast and then a quick three hour lunch. After the wedding weekend. I realized I need to come back more often, too many aunts, uncles, cousins and cool people who I fell in love with and really want to see again. I can see the frequent flier miles racking up.

So we come back to the states, and go to JFK and then onto LAX arrive at 2 a.m. and then I'm off to work at 5:30 a.m.

Overall I loved my vacation, I missed my friends and family at home. I didn't take my cell phone, check my e-mail or communicate outside of the world at all while I was there.

October

So now that things are getting back to normal, the fires are out in Southern California. There hsn't been any earthquakes (thanks God) and I'm back into the swing of things, life is good. Today we have had Santa Ana winds and it is dry, hot and about 90 degress Farenheit. Gotta love Southern California.

As for what I'm up to, I'm taking a seven week long class at California Lutheran University to ear a certificate in Non-Profit Fundraising and Marketing. I thought it would be a great series of classes for my involvement with the Red Cross. Speaking of the Red Cross, I just love voluntering there. People are so nice, you feel like you could possibly making a slight difference in the world and the best part you get to meet so many interesting. If you ever want to volunteer let me know :)

So besides that, I need to start studying again; yes again.... for my series 7 exam. This is for my registered representative license for the financial services industry. I took this about 4 or 5 years again and I didn't pass, but I really didn't study way too hard. But, I'm so bad at tests, so I know that alot of prayer will have to go into this one.

I'm back to planning events, LOVE events, I have a Christmas dinner for 300 at church to put together, a gala event for 250, a volunter appreciation for hopefully 600 and then birthday parties inbetween. I am smiling :)) If you have any ideas feel free to throw them my way.

Well back to studying....

The summer is almost over....

Well the summer is almost over and I am vinally taking a vacation. I am so excited.... I am going to Paris. No, not Paris in Las Vegas, Nevada but paris, France. A cousin of mine is getting married so we are going. So for twelve florious days I will have no e-mail, no cell phones and no stress. Life is going to be grand.

Well now that things have settled down around here with my grandas passing, I'm focusing on the next school year. I am taking a ceriticate program through California Lutheran University for non-profit fundraising and marketing. It is an intensive course schedule for two months and I have a big project to put together but the certificate is just that next step on getting my special events license certification and keeping myself involved with school.

Besides that, it is just easy going, enjoying the wonderful summer weather we have here in southern california.

a blessing from God

What's with the obscure title? Last night at 9:44 p.m. my gradfather went to a much better place; Heaven. It was truly a miracle of how the event happened. My brother was in Long beach with a summer school final so he took it and came dashing up in the evening. For him to not hit traffic and only take an hour to get to Camarillo is a mircale when he has to take the 405 and 101 freeway. Anyways, he picked my mom and me up and we went to Santa Barbara to my grandparents house. Everyone in the family all 12 of us were now at my gradfathers side.

So all of the grandchildren went in to see grandpa around 9:35 p.m. we said our goodbye's he couldn't open his eyes or talk but the movement of his head or the touch of his hand we knew he understood us and felt we were there.

After we left the room, his children went in to say goodbye and be at his side. At 9:44 p.m. he went to be with the Lord, peacefully.

The Month of July

Yes Kristin, I get your point, it has been over a month since my last post. So here is goes.
July has been a month of relaxation and recuperation from a busy year. It has been a great time to just chill, take a few saturday afternoon naps, catch up with old friends, read a book or two, take up golf lessons and pretty much just stop and smell the roses. Let me say I'm only 17 days into the month and I really needed this break.

But.... reality is soon setting in and back to getting busy again. I'm busy planning the 3rd. Annual Cara Barton Awards Dinner and Silent Auction for the Red Cross chapter of Ventura County. It will be at the Reagan Library over looking the air force one place. It is such a georgous site. Then there is another event for the Red Cross in September 2006 that we are starting to work on ideas for, it is going to be a salute to our military so lots of patriotic themed items going into this thought process. This weekend I'm doing an event for about 70 people and it's a golf themed birthday party so that will be alot of fun. Do you see a theme going on here.... Vicky really likes planning events.

Besides that, the family is good. My grandfather has been given about six months to live, his cancer count is up and his kidneys are shutting down so that is really hard. But, I know that he is going to a much better place.

So... since I'm lame and can never remeber everyone's blog address, shoot me an e-mail with your blog and I'll save it to my favorites.

V

Graduation Day!

Red Cross Award

So, first there was graduation this month, then there was the Annual Red Cross Volunteer Apprciation and Board Meeting.
I was invited to join the Ameican Red Cross of Ventura County's Board of Directors for 2005 - 2006. Wow! What an awesome oppurtunity to be able to serve in. I'm really excited about being amongst such great individiduals and I'm looking forward to the many challenges that are ahead.

At the meeting, I was given the Fundraiser of the Year award. Let me just say I was blown away. There have been so many great people who have received this award before me and they have really big shoes to follow in. So I was not only humbled but in awe that the organization selected me for this great award.

Here's the Press Release:
American Red Cross gives awards in seven categories
May 31, 2005
Five Ventura County residents and one local media business were honored earlier this month by the American Red Cross of Ventura County.
The awards covered seven categories. Winners included Julie Jorgenson for Armed Forces Emergency Services; Connie Hall for Disaster Services; Wil Begoody for Health and Safety Services; Gold Coast Broadcasting for Good Neighbor; Victoria Dickran for fundraising; and Richard Swede for Stark Memorial Volunteer of the Year.

GRADUATION!!!

YEAH!!!
I'm Graduated!!! Okay, this is the point where everyone keeps asking if I'm any smarter or if I feel smarter. The honest answer. Not really. But, I do have a nice piece of paper that needs to be framed that cost ohhh $60,000 that says I have a Masters in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance. Let me just say that is one very expensive piece of paper. Do you think anyone on ebay would buy it? staring bid $60,001? any offers?

LOL, okay so I have my sense of humor but I must say I absolutely LOVED getting my Masters degree. I'm seriously thinking of going for my PhD. I've signed up right now for a few certificate classes. So who knows.

So graduation was last Saturday, May 14th, 2005. It rained the Saturday before, and it had of been the hottest day of the year on graduation day. The graduation ceremony was really nice, it was fun walkiing with my very best friends. I think we were talking dibs to see if we were going to pass out or who was sweating the most. But being a girl and all, I said I only slighly perspire, not sweat. But, let me say, I bought some really cute new shoes that matched my top in a green with little butterflies on the material. At the end of the cermony I couldn't walk they hurt so bad.
So on to the party. We had it at Steven's house since that was the only place that could accomadate 65 of us since the guys; three of them and me all threw a party together. Translation, they said Vicky thow us a graduation party, tell us how much to pay you afterwards. :) But it was fun. His backyard is like 1/2 an acre, so we had bocce ball, badmitton, basketball and we rented a jolly jump. That was my favorite. It was the big boxing ring. (never try to pick up the boxing gloves they are extremely heavy) and let me just say not us the graduates but our parents had so much fun jumping in it. It was quite funny.

So after all day in the heat, a nice full of fun, with family, friends, loved ones and just special people, it was time to call it a night. Jerry's

So we had a Ben & Jerry's fundraiser a month or two ago for the victims of the La Conchita mudslides. It was so much fun. We took the ERV (Emergency Recretional Vehicle) to the store front location. (let me just tell you riding in an ERV is like riding in a huge boat on wheels its so bumy and loud. and I wasn't aloud to play with the lights and sirens). We parked it outside of the Ben & Jerry's store as a big billboard telling people to come there. Oh, let me back up, the local newspaper in the county did an article about the fundraiser so everyone in town knew to come.
So, thanks to the HUGE generosity of the local show owner, we were able to scopp an ice cream cone and all proceeds benefited the American Red Cross's efforts for La Conchita.
The cool part is that Ben who is one of the founders of the company flew in from Virginia to participate in the fundraiser. Let me just say that he is one of the most down to earth individuials I have every met that is in the corporate world.

So needless to say after a long afternoon of selling people on buying ice cream, walking up to total strangers on our downtown main street convicing them to buy ice cream, I had the best time I've ever had.

I'll try to attach a few pictures!

Red Cross Gala

Red Cross

So... I've decided to join the blog crowd.
What's new with me. I just finished wrapping up the post details for the Gala Event that I chaired for the American Red Cross - Ventura County Chapter the beginning of April. Wow! Let me just say that was one fun event. After a year of planning details, working with Corporate Sponsors, media outlets, social directors, society people and award recipients I'm all tired. But, after raising $75,000 I think it was a success. The event this year was held at Sherwood Country Club (where Tiger Woods has his charity golf tournament every year; Tom Selleck is the chair of the club) if was exciting. Lots of people came and even though I didn't get my signed t.v. show ER autographed scrub (it would of been nice to have Noah Wiley's signature) it was fun.
I'll see if I can figure out how to post a few pictures.
